1Before making any changes to the claim, follow the guidance in Establish If A Change Can Be Made

2Check that you have the following information for the child that is continuing in FTNAE
  • Surname
  • Forename
  • Date of birth (DOB)

  • Start date for the child continuing in education

Note: If a young person starts a non-advanced course or approved training scheme after their 19th birthday, you must establish the date they actually enrolled on that course / scheme. If they enrolled before their 19th birthday, they can be included in the calculation of entitlement for the claimant

Note: For a list of non-advanced and advanced education courses

Access the Benefits & Credits intranet homepage

Select ‘C’ in the A-Z box on the left hand side of the screen

Select 'CBO overall guidance'

Select 'Full Time Education' on the CBO guidance screen

  • If you have all the information, and
  • The claimant has indicated that the child is living outside the United Kingdom (UK), go step 10

Otherwise

  • Go to step 4
  • If you do not have all the information, go to step 3

Note: If the claim has been rejected, invite the claimant to make a fresh claim. Follow the guidance in Invite Fresh Claim. Take no further action

8If the FTNAE start date is more than 3 months prior to today's date, go to the History screen and change the date in the Include From field to the same date as the date in the Start Date field

Example: A claimant tells us on 20/12/2007 that their child is continuing in FTNAE. The child started FTNAE on 01/09/2007. The date in the Start Date field is 01/09/2007. The date in the Include From field is automatically set by the computer to 20/09/2007, which is 3 months prior to today's date. To prevent the computer from losing correct payment, the date in the Include From field should be changed to 01/09/2007
