People returning to education who have responsibility for children can claim child care costs from the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) - formerly called the Department of Education and Skills (DfES).

This is paid at a higher rate of the claimant's costs than payments made by the tax credits child care element.

You must follow the guidance in the action guide when a claimant informs you that they are going into full-time education and they now want to claim their childcare costs from the DCSF instead of from tax credits.
