Tax credits claims that have been sent for processing appear on the ‘Verification Failures’ Work List if a verification failure is found

A claim should be rejected, if after you have investigated a verification failure you

  • Establish that the claimant is not eligible

Or

  • Have not received a reply to your enquiries within 28 calendar days

You must use Function REJECT APPLICATION to reject a claim because of a verification failure. In this function you must select the reason(s) for the rejection from the options available

If you are rejecting a claim because the claimant has failed to reply to your enquiries you should send a referral to the Compliance Organised Fraud Team

Notes

  1. There may be more than one reason why the claim is to be rejected. You must select all the relevant reasons
  1. If the claim is to be rejected because you have not had a response to your enquiries to resolve the verification failure, the reason for the rejection is the verification failure and not the fact that the claim is incomplete
  1. The Enter Reason for Rejection to be shown on notice field in the Reject Application dialogue box, in Function REJECT APPLICATION is for use by Compliance only. Any entries made in this field are copied onto the Rejection Notice
