Stage One - Registering An Appeal (AG)

To register an appeal, consider steps 1 - 8 below. The guide is presented as follows

Go to top of page  Initial action

1Use Function VIEW APPLICATION and enter the claimant's details from the appeal form TC623 or the letter into the Key Entry Data screen

Note: If the appeal is from a claimant living in Northern Ireland, or is against a decision on a Complex or European Economic Area (EEA) case, send it to the Appeals Team (This text has been withheld because of exemptions in the Freedom of Information Act 2000)

  • If the appeal is against a Compliance decision, send the appeal to the appropriate compliance office

 Otherwise

  • Go to step 2
2If the computer
  • Provides a match for the claimant, go to step 4
  • Does not provide a match for the claimant, attempt to trace the claimant. Follow the guidance in Trace Individual
  • If you are able to trace the claimant, go to step 4
  • If you are unable to trace the claimant
  • Complete form TC648
  • File the appeal in the clerical BF for 30 days

Then

  • Go to step 3
3If the information requested is
  • Received within 30 days, go to step 4
  • Not received after 30 days, discard the appeal in confidential waste and take no further action

4Use Function MAINTAIN APPEAL and enter the claimant's NINO in the Key Entry Data screen
  • If you are taken to the Select Application screen, select the appropriate claim version that the claimant has appealed against by double clicking on the entry. You will be taken to the Select Award screen. Go to step 5
  • If you are taken straight to the Select Award screen, go to step 5
5In the Select Award screen
  • Select the award version the claimant has appealed against by double clicking on the appropriate entry. You will be taken to the Maintain Appeal screen
  • Go to step 6

Go to top of page  Completing the Maintain Appeal screen

6In the Maintain Appeal screen, enter the following details
  • The Appeal Status field will automatically show as Open
  • From the Decision Challenged field drop down list, select the type of decision notice that the claimant has appealed against. This can be either
  • A Decision Notice
  • An Award Notice

Or

  • A Statement of Account
  • In the Date Appeal Acknowledged field, enter the date you acknowledged receipt of the appeal. An entry will automatically be created on the ‘Open Appeals’ Work List

Note: Do not check the Compliance Interest checkbox.This is for CCO use only

  • If the claimant has notified you that they have appointed a representative to deal with their appeal, go to step 7

Otherwise

  • Go to step 8

7Use Function MAINTAIN HOUSEHOLD NOTES to enter the following

'TCMZ Claimant has appointed (insert representatives name) to deal with appeal'

You must follow the guidance in How To Correctly Complete Application And Household Notes when you record the note

Follow the guidance in Maintain Household Notes

Then

Go to step 8
