Regulation 111 SSCR 2001

Airman means:

• a person who is or has been in employment under a contract of service either as a pilot, commander, navigator or other member of the crew (eg stewards and stewardesses) of any aircraft ; or
• in any other capacity on board an aircraft for the purposes of the aircraft, its crew, or any passengers or cargo or mails carried provided the contract was entered into in the UK with a view to its whole or part performance while the aircraft is in flight

The definition does not include members of HM Forces see NIM32000 onwards.
