NIM39615 - National Insurance Numbers (NINOs): Special Cases: NINOs for people going or living abroad

Any request for a NINO for employment purposes from a person living, or going to live, abroad is handled by the CAR Residency Newcastle who will arrange for JobCentre plus in Glasgow to allocate the NINO

CAR will also include cases where a person from abroad was working in the UK for a short period, had UK NIC liability but left the UK before they could be allocated an NINO.

Refer any cases to CAR Newcastle and they will deal direct with the person concerned.

Note: NINO cards are not sent abroad. If the person has a BFPO address, NI Allocation will arrange for the card to be sent to the appropriate unit Paymaster.
