NIM39610 - National Insurance Numbers (NINOs): Special Cases: Fastpath NINO registration
From 2003 DWP and HMRC introduced "fastpath" registration
schemes for certain groups of people, allowing them to be allocated
a NINO without attending a DWP office for an evidence of identity
interview. See
NIM39325.
These schemes are only used in specific circumstances.
Currently the fastpath scheme applies to:
- NHS staff recruited from abroad
- certain employers applying for work permits to bring in employees from abroad under the Intra-company transfer scheme, and
- successful asylum seekers whose applications are dealt with by the Home Office Immigration and Nationality Department.
Other schemes may well be introduced as suitable cases come to
light.
Customers asking about fastpaths should contact DWP on 0845
641 4047, 0845 641 4048 or 0845 641 4049.
HMRC staff with technical or policy queries about fastpaths
should contact PAYE, SA & NICS Newcastle Technical Unit,
BP7201, Benton Park View, Newcastle upon Tyne. See
NIM39730.
