INS49080 - Other forms of insolvency: Company dissolutions: Practical guide - things to look for


Below is a list of the sources of information and matters to consider when researching whether a company dissolution requires further attention. (This text has been withheld because of exemptions in the Freedom of Information Act 2000)


  • Lack of correspondence in file – why no CT41G.
  • Name of company and registered office
  • Are there other companies on system with similar names or at same RO.
  • Is name known to you as local business
  • Does same registered office appear constantly on CES21’s? Even formation agents are unlikely to keep setting up new companies at substantial outlay only to allow them to be dissolved.
  • Directors
  • Who are they and what are their tax histories?
  • If you have or obtain details of directors check whether they have other sources of
  • income or employment for period since company set up. If not assume they were employed by this company.
  • check for PAYE scheme
  • check if directors involved in other companies previously and how businesses ended
  • are returns outstanding and/or estimates/determinations issued?
