INS44075 - What to investigate and how: Motor vehicles: What should I do before the creditors' meeting?

Before attending a creditors’ meeting there are a number of checks that can be done to find out about any vehicles the company may own or lease.

Obtain the last tax computation which should show any vehicles operated by the company. The computations may also show the registration numbers and whether the vehicle is on lease or hire purchase.

Speak to Receivables colleagues to find out if they have been to the company’s premises. If so what vehicles have they seen, or have they distrained on any? Obtain any written details of the visit which may have been recorded at the time.

Review the computer records such as PAYE Service/SA. Details of the list price of any vehicle used by the directors or employees will be shown on the PAYE Service record, together with the date the vehicle was available from. It is also worth checking the directors’ spouses’ records if they are employees of the company.
