IHTM03292 - ALF file location system: access to ALF

All staff working with Inheritance Tax files have access to ALF on their computers. Caseworkers generally have read only access and can use ALF to look up file references and to find out where files are.

More functions are made available to staff who create files (IHTM03262) and to registry staff, who are responsible for recording file movements and noting review dates. Managers are also able to use some of the additional functions.

All people with access to ALF have a unique User Identification (user ID) and a password. They will need to enter both of these to access the system. Passwords must be kept secret. It will be regarded as a serious breach of discipline if you

• knowingly disclose your password to someone else
• seek to find or use someone else's password, or
• attempt any unauthorised use of ALF.
