IHTM31132 - Making amendments: NIOP assets and liabilities

  • Assets

Once you have selected the appropriate property category ( IHTM31131), you will arrive at the assets screen showing a list of the assets (and their values) recorded under that Entry and type of property, such as Free Estate, Standard.

You can also access the assets and liabilities entered for an estate from the case outline window (accessed by the branch-diagram icon), double click on the asset you want to change. This will bring you straight to the update screen for that asset. Make the changes and press OK to take you back to the case outline screen.

  • Amend

To update an existing record, highlight that record on the list and click on the “Update” button.

If you want to increase or decrease the amount of the existing amount, type in the difference in the left box and press the appropriate + or – button.

If you want to replace the original figure, type the new figure in the left box and press the = button.

If you have an open ERS enquiry ( IHTM29012), you must select whether you want the adjustment to be compliant ( IHTM29107) before you can save and exit the record through the OK button.

  • Delete

If you want to delete a record, highlight it in the list and click on the Delete button.

Again, if you have an open ERS record, you will be prompted to confirm whether you wish to record the deletion as compliant.

  • New asset

Press the Add button and select the type of asset from the list. You do not have the option of naming the asset individually and it must fit into one of the standard groups, as on the HMRC Account.

Write the amount of the new asset in the left box and press =. Note whether the addition is compliant by checking in the appropriate option.

  • Liabilities

Enter the liabilities screen through the “Liabilities” button.

Amend, delete and add new records as for assets using the drop down menu from the description box.

Funeral and associated expenses have their own separate record below the list of other liabilities.
