It is quite common to encounter a life policy which has been
issued to more than one policyholder. Usually the joint
policyholders are husband and wife or civil partners (
IHTM11032) but, provided there is
sufficient insurable interest (
IHTM20085) it is possible for people
who are neither married to, nor in a civil partnership with, each
other to take out joint policies. Partners and co-directors of
limited companies often do so, for example.
See
IHTM20023 for procedural
instructions.
