IHTM17041 - IHT claims on contributions to a
pension scheme: introduction
Where a person makes contributions to a pension fund they do not
usually make a transfer of value (
IHTM04024) as a result. However, there
are two situations which you should be aware of where payment of
contributions may result in a lifetime transfer. These situations
are where
- the transferor contributes to their own
pension scheme, retains the retirement benefits but has assigned
the death benefits (
IHTM17042) outside their estate,
or
- the transferor contributes (
IHTM17043) to a pension scheme for
someone else and the benefits are solely for other persons
