IHTM17041 - IHT claims on contributions to a pension scheme: introduction


Where a person makes contributions to a pension fund they do not usually make a transfer of value ( IHTM04024) as a result. However, there are two situations which you should be aware of where payment of contributions may result in a lifetime transfer. These situations are where

  • the transferor contributes to their own pension scheme, retains the retirement benefits but has assigned the death benefits ( IHTM17042) outside their estate, or
  • the transferor contributes ( IHTM17043) to a pension scheme for someone else and the benefits are solely for other persons
