IHTM03293 - ALF file location system: file references

File references appear on the barcode label on files.

All reference numbers include a prefix letter and a check character. The check character is determined by ALF making a random calculation based on the other characters in the reference. It provides a quick means of checking the accuracy of quoted references as they are keyed into ALF.
