IDG64000 - Procedure for disclosing to others (government): Gangmasters Licensing Authority (GLA)

GLA - General

The GLA is a non departmental public body within the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA). The authority monitors the working conditions of those involved in the agriculture, horticulture, shellfish gathering, and associated processing and packaging industries.

The GLA was created by the Gangmasters (Licensing) Act 2004. Section 19 of this Act allows specified officers in HMRC to share information with the GLA in certain circumstances. The GLA and HMRC have many overlapping areas of work, and we should take every opportunity to share information with them, so long as done in the manner detailed below.

Only Labour Providers Units (LPU) may disclose this information

If an officer from the Gangmasters Licensing Authority asks you for information, you must pass on this request to the Labour Providers Units (LPU), via the central LPU contact (see IDG90100). Likewise, if you are asked by any other organisation for information about gangmasters, please pass on this request to the central LPU contact. Offices other than LPU are not permitted to disclose this information to the GLA.
