ECH7360 - Employer Compliance Investigation Team (ECIT): Roles and Responsibilities
The ECITs are a National Cross Cutting team who work cases
across all customer segments (
ECH7355).

Role of caseworker
- Undertake Employer Compliance Checks on cases, where there is
- an allegation/information to suggest disguised/unrecorded earnings
- information to suggest that a business is trading with employees without operating a PAYE scheme
- the possibility of collusion exists
- Support and work collaboratively with all ECIT staff
- Support the Managers in the progression of cases
- Support Managers and provide feedback on performance and developmental needs
Role of Manager
- Provide advice, support and direction on individual casework.
- Provide advice and support to caseworkers on tactical pre-research activities such as directed surveillance, interviewing informants, ex-employees etc.
- Manage and co-ordinate surveillance activities.
- Encourage and facilitate case conferences with appropriate stakeholders.
- Work collaboratively with other customer groups.
- To accompany and support caseworkers on potentially confrontational meetings/interviews.
- Support the caseworker in making a direct challenge in cases where disclosure is not forthcoming.
- To provide advice and direction on the settlement of liabilities.
- To provide advice on culpability and settlement.
- To continuously develop the investigation and technical skills of all team members.
- Maintain statistical data for the Senior Manager, of cases worked where the HO caseworker has added value.
- Ensure that best practice is shared on both a local and national basis.
- Proactively network with the other compliance stall to promote the work of the ECIT and identify opportunities for joint working.
In addition the teams may also have AO and AA support officers,
who will provide operational and clerical support as defined by the
management team.
ECIT has responsibility for areas of work that require
compliance checks of a more resource intensive, investigative
nature (
ECH7350).
