DT18067 - DT: Sweden: double taxation agreement, Article 18: Pensions and annuities
(1) Subject to the provisions of paragraph (3) of this Article
and of paragraph (2) of Article 19, pensions and other similar
remuneration paid to a resident of a Contracting State in
consideration of past employment and annuities may be taxed in the
Contracting State where they arise. However, in taxing such
pensions, remuneration and annuities a deduction of one- fifth of
their amount shall be allowed by that State.
(2) Subject to the provisions of paragraph (3) of this
Article and of paragraph (2) of Article 19, payments made under the
social security legislation of a Contracting State may be taxed in
that State.
(3) Pensions and other similar remuneration paid in
consideration of past employment, annuities and payments under the
social security legislation of a Contracting State paid to a
resident of the other Contracting State shall be taxable only in
that other State if the beneficial owner is a national of that
other State.
(4) The term `annuity` means a stated sum payable
periodically at stated times during life or during a specified or
ascertainable period of time under an obligation to make the
payments in return for adequate and full consideration in money or
money's worth.
