Children and young people

In some cases the higher rate may not apply to an award until more than twelve months after the birthday.

Example

Huw is claiming DPTC for himself, his wife and their daughter Delyth. Delyth's 16th birthday is on 7.9.99. The first Tuesday in September following Delyth's 16th birthday is 5.9.00.

Huw's first award of DPTC is due to begin on 19.10.99. The credit awarded for Delyth in that award is for a child under 16. The higher rate for a young person aged 16 cannot be awarded. This is because Huw's award begins before 5.9.00 (the first Tuesday in September after Delyth's 16th birthday).

Huw's first award of DPTC ends and following his renewal application his new award is due to begin on 18.4.00. The credit awarded for Delyth stays at the amount for a child under 16. This is because Huw's second award also begins before 5.9.00.

Huw's second award ends and following his renewal application his third award is due to begin on 17.10.00. The credit awarded for Delyth in this award is for a young person aged up to 16. This is because this third award begins after 5.9.00 (the first Tuesday in September after Delyth's 16th birthday).
