Student Loans: Residence conditions: England, Wales and Scotland

A student must be ordinarily resident in England, Wales or Scotland on the first day of the first year of the course. They must also have been ordinarily resident in the

1) British Isles or

EEA if

2.1 the student can establish migrant worker status or 2.2 the student's parents are migrant workers throughout the three years before that date

A person who is a refugee, and who has been resident in the UK throughout the period since being recognised as a refugee, or who is the spouse, child or stepchild or such a person, meets the residency condition. A person who has been granted leave to enter or remain in the UK, and has been ordinarily resident in the UK since being granted leave to enter or remain, or a person who is the spouse, child or stepchild of such a person, meets the residency condition.

To satisfy this condition, the residence must not have been wholly or mainly for the purpose of receiving full time education.
