A student is defined as a person other than a person in receipt
of a training allowance
1) aged less than 19 who is attending a full time course of
advanced education
or<<b> 2) aged 19 or over who is attending a course
of study at an educational establishment. For a person aged 19 or
over to be treated as a student, the course need not be one of
advanced education.
Note The decision maker should regard most student nurses
participating in Project 2000 as students because they are
attending a full time course of education. This applies even when
the person concerned is sick and not receiving the bursary. Those
who were formerly NHS employees and who continue to pay SS
contributions and income tax, remain employees
