Decision Makers Guide - DMG39002

Students: Identifying a student

A child or young person for whom a discretionary award for non-advanced education (a minor award) is made is not a student. These awards are made yearly according to the circumstances of the parents. Income from a minor award should be disregarded.

Note Student loans or grants (the maintenance element of major awards) are paid direct to the students regardless of their age. Payments of minor awards are made to the parent or guardian.
