Decision Makers Guide - DMG31105

Deciding if a person is a self-employed earner: Remunerative work

A person providing a service for payment is normally engaged in remunerative work regardless of profit or loss. Where, for example, a new business has been set up there may be no payment received but there could be a realistic expectation of payment at some time in the future. It is for the person to show they are working for nothing and explain why.
