The S of S will recognise any establishment which is providing a
certain standard of general education comparable to a university,
college or school. This includes
1) schools administered by LEAs
2) public schools
3) private schools
4) private boarding schools
5) universities
6) colleges of education
7) colleges of further education
8) colleges of commerce administered by LEAs.
Where there is doubt as to whether a particular establishment
is a recognised one further enquiries will be needed. If the
educational establishment is not a recognised one the 16-18 year
old can only be a young person if the decision maker recognises the
education undertaken (DMG11100).
