Decision Makers Guide - DMG11080

Absences abroad

A child or young person who normally lives with the applicant does not need to satisfy the ordinarily resident test (DMG11033(2)) to be a member of the family. A child who is temporarily abroad is a member of the family provided that they are a member of the applicant's household. A 16-18 year old abroad, who is a member of the applicant's household, would still need to satisfy the conditions in DMG11092 in order to be a young person. In particular a 16-18 year old will need to satisfy the education conditions (DMG11092).
