COM44001 - Case records: agents: introduction

COTAX holds the name, address and contact details of every agent representing a company. This information is known as the national agent file. It is accessed each time a new agent is added, or an existing agent is ceased or amended.

Each agent is identified by a unique code and details of the agent’s record can be viewed in COTAX using Function VWAG (View Agent). Any amendments that need to be made to the agent records are dealt with centrally by the Central Agents Authorisation Team (CAAT) in Longbenton.

Amendments can also be made automatically online by a company or agent submitting a structured action request (Word 33KB) updating the company and / or agents details.

Note: A separately maintained national agent file holds agent details for ITSA cases and the agent codes are different for the two systems. The CAAT team are also responsible for maintaining ITSA agents’ records and will check both systems to ensure all agents’ records are up to date.
