COM121030 - Repayments / reallocations: inhibit automatic process: automatic inhibit signals
The computer will set inhibitor signals automatically against specific APs / companies in certain circumstances. The signals are
- Inhibit Reallocations Only (Automatic)
- Inhibit Repayments Only (Automatic)
- (This text has been withheld because of exemptions in the Freedom of Information Act 2000)
- Inhibit Small Repayments Only
- Inhibit Repayment Amount Specified by Company
- Cancelled Repayment inhibit
The computer sets
- The Inhibit Reallocations Only and Inhibit Repayments Only signals when a company asks Banking Operations to allocate a payment against a specific duty type (a penalty for example) within an AP, and this posting causes that duty type to become overpaid
- The Inhibit Repayments Only (Automatic) signal alone, when Banking Operations receives a payment (other than by BACS or CHAPS) that causes an overpayment on a AP
- (This text has been withheld because of exemptions in the Freedom of Information Act 2000)
- The Inhibit Repayment Amount Specified By Company at company level if a return is captured with a figure in Box 175 (CT600 Version 1) or Box 134 (CT600 Version 2)
- The Cancelled Repayment Inhibit at AP level when an issued repayment is cancelled
Inhibit Reallocations Only (Automatic)
This signal
- Only inhibits automatic reallocations
- Can be unset by you
- Is unset automatically after 14 days
Inhibit Repayments Only (Automatic)
This signal
- Only inhibits automatic repayments
- Is set automatically for 14 days, for payment by payment types other than BACS or CHAPS, to prevent a repayment being made before the payment (for example a cheque) is cleared
- Is set if the Inhibit Reallocations Only (Automatic) signal is set
- Cannot be unset except by the computer
- Is unset by the computer after 14 days
Note: When the overpayment is £3 or less the computer will balance the AP by treating it as a Permanent Overpayment on the company record (posting type POP).

Inhibit Small Repayments Only
This signal
- Inhibits COTAX from automatically repaying amounts of £20 or less

- Inhibits COTAX from automatically repaying any amount or less specified by the company
- Can be amended by you
Cancelled Repayment Inhibit
This signal
- Shows that an issued repayment has been cancelled
- Is unset
-
- Automatically if the charge is increased
Or
-
- The AP becomes balanced
Or
-
- Manually by you
It is recommended that you
- Do not manually unset the Cancelled Repayment Inhibit. (This could prompt the incorrect reissue by COTAX of the cancelled repayment)
- Make repayments using Function DIRR (Direct Repayment) when you are in a position to go ahead with the repayment
For a list of functions to use in particular situations, see COM121011.
