COM43020 - Case records: RLS addresses: the tracing unit

Banking Operations offices contain Tracing Units, specifically set up to deal with cases where all known addresses are RLS. CT processing offices, Debt Management offices and Banking Operations pass cases to the Tracing Units.

If a Tracing Unit finds a new communications address (Word 23.5kb), it updates the company’s COTAX record using Function ACOM (Amend Communication Details), and returns the RLS papers to the originating office.

If no new address is found, the Tracing Unit will

  • Where an amount is outstanding, and subject to local action
    • Refer the case to the responsible Debt Management office to take appropriate action
  • In all other cases
    • Refer the case to the responsible CT processing office for further action
