COM32120 - Background: features of COTAX: the insert key
In most Windows applications, the [Insert] key, on the keyboard has two functions
- In ‘Insert’ mode it
- Allows you to insert new characters at any point on the screen where the cursor is flashing, without replacing any existing characters
And
- In ‘Overwrite’ mode it
- Allows you to delete an existing character and replace it with the new character pressed on the keyboard
This means, for example, that in the previous CT Pay and File computer it was possible in ‘Overwrite’ mode to replace an existing 10 digit reference number by typing in the new reference over the old.
COTAX does not support overwriting. To replace existing data in COTAX you must
- Place the cursor in the field you want to amend
And
- Delete the existing entry
And then
- Enter the new details
