CARD STATUS: INTRODUCTION

This paragraph serves as an introductory overview of the subject; for deeper coverage use the above links to information or action guides.

Card status is used by the Construction Industry Scheme computer system to record the type and condition of a Registration Card. The status of a card is recorded and displayed on the `List Registration Cards' window of the system. You can set some of the statuses yourself by amendments on-line. Others are set by the system automatically in certain situations.

There are two types of Registration Card

  • the temporary card CIS4(T)

and

  • the permanent card CIS4(P).

Temporary cards are issued to applicants whose NINO cannot be validated at the time of the application. They are valid for 12 months from the date of production. For more detail on this, see the information menu in this chapter or CIS2407.

Permanent cards are issued where the NINO can be validated and they have no expiry date. They are valid for life unless they are cancelled or otherwise invalidated by or on behalf of the Revenue. Valid lost, stolen or damaged Registration Cards can be replaced provided a current photograph and signature are held in the CIS archive record (See CIS2300 for details of the replacement process).

The computer system supporting the Scheme recognises seven different statuses for Registration Cards. They are listed below:

  • valid
  • temporary
  • lost/stolen
  • ceased
  • invalidated
  • expired
  • cancelled.

More detailed information about these statuses is provided in the following paragraphs together with guidance on how and why you can alter card status on the system.
