CCM12100 - Opening and Working Enquiries: Enquiry notice - general
You must give notice of your enquiry to the person, or each of
the persons, into whose entitlement, or joint entitlement, you are
enquiring. If the claim was made by a couple, you
must give a notice of enquiry to each. You cannot
choose to issue an enquiry notice to only one member of the couple,
even if you feel certain that all the information you need for your
enquiry relates to that person (for example, if you are enquiring
into that person’s income). If you do not give notice to both
persons where there is joint entitlement, your enquiry will not be
valid and you will only be able to correct this and open one if you
are still within the normal time limit (the enquiry window).
The guidance at
CCM12130 tells you what to include in
the notice of your enquiry but you must ensure the notice is valid
otherwise you will have to cease your enquiries – see
