Instalment Offers

A cash offer is obviously preferred to an instalment offer as:

  • we get our money sooner
  • there is less risk of default
  • there is less administration so it is more cost effective

However, there will be times when a claimant cannot make a lump sum payment. If they ask to pay by instalments, or it is obvious that this is the only way in which a recovery can be made you must consider the means position.

You must take a realistic view of the claimant’s ability to pay. For example, if they are in seasonal employment they may well be unable to continue the payment when the current employment comes to an end.
