CCM7570 - Discrepancy Enquiries: Receipt of application for enquiry to be completed - general

It is unlikely that you will encounter such applications in discrepancy cases because of the nature of the enquiry. They are more likely to occur in long dragged out area cases or where the opening letter does not say why we are concerned and the claimant has no wish to co-operate until he/she knows what we think is wrong.

If you receive an application, you will normally:

  1. Accept claimants figure if you can and close the enquiry avoiding the need for the completion application having to go any further - or
  2. Make a S19/enquiry decision using our figure, which will carry a right of appeal but the decision closes the enquiry so there is no need for the completion application to go further.

Only in exceptional circumstances should there be a need for the application to go any further and if that is the case then you should follow the guidance set out in Chapter 12.
