CCM7310 - Discrepancy Enquiries: Types of Discrepancy Enquiries

The discrepancies you will work will have been identified by profiling e.g. income / benefit details, with relevant databases via the data warehouse. The income discrepancy cases you receive will therefore come with a high degree of assurance of the accuracy of the information.

The profiles will be run by the Claimant Compliance Risk Team (CCRT) and allocated to CCC Preston/Washington via the Tax Credit Workbench (TCW). The cases that are profiled need to be checked to ensure that:

  • the entitlement is not already under enquiry by a CCO in a Claimant Compliance Centre (CCC)
  • the entitlement has not already had an enquiry opened and closed on it
  • the case is not being considered by the CCRO for full enquiry
  • the case has not been selected for a mandatory enquiry (if the case has already been selected for a ME, the profile will automatically be discarded by TCW)
  • the amount of the apparent discrepancy falls within the limits of the work appropriate for CCC Preston/Washington (the profile should include the relevant values).

Note: although TCW won't prevent opening, any other enquiries will be visible (see TCW Guide for more details).

You also need to check that SA have not closed the enquiry window - see CCM7540
