BIM55301 - Farming quotas: general
Various quota systems operate within the UK farming industry to
regulate production, or the entitlement to production subsidies.
For example -
- Milk quota (see
BIM55335 and CG77820 onwards) allows a
farmer to produce a certain amount of milk without incurring a
supplementary levy known as `superlevy'.
- Potato quota (see CG77960 onwards) allows
a farmer to grow potatoes on a set acreage of land.
- Ewe Premium quota (see CG77982) entitles a
farmer to claim EC subsidies for keeping ewes.
- Suckler Cow Premium (see CG77982) quota
entitles a farmer to claim EC subsidies for keeping suckler
cows.
- There is also a sugar beet quota but this
is a misnomer. Such amounts are really contract tonnage
entitlements. They are not genuine quota. See Tax Bulletin 55 (Oct
01)
