BIM41105 - Receipts: reverse premiums: conveyance of a freehold

Although, in terms, a person buying a freehold has become entitled to an estate or interest in land, the legislation does not charge inducements to buy freehold interests in land. That is because it targets inducements only if made by the grantor of an interest etc. in land. A lease or other lesser interest in land is granted because it is created out of a superior interest in that land which the grantor holds. A freehold, however, is the highest interest in land that may be held. It cannot be granted. Thus, on conveyance of a freehold, no grantor is involved.
