BIM14015 - Schedule D: The division into Cases
The tax charge is classified into the six Cases, or sub-divisions, of Schedule D. In summary, these are tax in respect of:
| Case I | any trade (wherever carried on) |
| Case II | any profession or vocation (which is not in any other Schedule) |
| Case III | interest of money, annuities and other annual payments, discounts and income from securities bearing interest payable out of the public revenue (except income charged under Schedule C up to 1995-96 |
| Case IV | income arising from securities outside the UK (except income charged under Schedule C up to 1995-96) |
| Case V | income arising from possessions out of the UK (except that from any office or employment) |
| Case VI | any annual profits or gains not falling under any other Case of Schedule D or any other Schedule |
For Corporation Tax purposes, the scope of Cases III, IV and V has been amended by FA96/SCH14. A new ICTA88/S18 (3A) now applies for Corporation Tax purposes.
