AH0405 - Written Procedures: Style of written procedures

The written procedures may be in the form of one document or in sections so that each section may be given to the person most likely to need it for guidance.

The instructions should be as clear as possible. Complexity gives rise to mistakes. Staff should

  • be free to work with minimum supervision
  • know exactly where their task begins and ends
  • know what happens if their bounds are exceeded and to whom such cases should be referred.

Make use of flow charts if staff are likely to find them helpful.
