IHTM39023 - Review of future claims: reviewing F(DT) cases


When the F(DT) files are received from store they are sent to the E1 in Compliance Group to consider whether to review for an account.

Any case where outside the UK should be forwarded to TG. Otherwise the PC&S caseworker will decide whether to call for an account (if an account is received at this stage, it is dealt with in the normal way).

If you decide to call for an account you should send SL71 to the agents and BU for 2 months after the statutory period ends.

If the agents’ reply is that they are no longer acting you should check if the current agents can be traced from Waterlow Publications, Phone Disk, Taxpayers’ Index, or the SAV File (only if there has been recent activity). Or if the previous agents have given the new agents’ details, you should ring them to confirm they are acting and, if so, send SL71.

If you cannot trace the current agents you should BU 2 months after the end of the statutory period and send the file to Compliance Group. If this period has already ended send the file straight to Compliance Group.

End of Statutory Period

  • Set up an Enquiry Record 2 months after the statutory period has ended.
  • Remind Agents who are acting - by telephone.
  • If there is no response to SL71 - then fax a reminder asking someone to call and confirm whether or not they are still acting - follow this up with a telephone call.
  • If agents are acting -BU 1 for a month
  • If the agents are not acting - try and trace the agents.
  • If an SL 71 is sent direct to the Trustee - then send a reminder and follow up with a telephone call on a date specified in your letter.
  • If you cannot reach the trustee by telephone BU 1 month.
  • If there has been no account and you have been unable to trace the Trustee or Agent - then send the file to Compliance Group to decide whether or not they wish to pursue the matter.
  • Where the statutory period has expired, and no account has been received - send the file to Compliance Group to consider the next course of action.
