IHTM38089 - Tracing the taxpayer: making use of the Tracing Unit

Caseworkers in Debt Management & Banking can seek the assistance of the Tracing Unit by writing to the Accounts Office in Shipley (do not write to Cumbernauld) with details of the taxpayers you are trying to locate together with a brief explanation of the reasons why it is necessary to locate the taxpayer. Please address your request to:

Tracing Unit
Accounts Office
Victoria Street
Shipley
BD98 8AA
and send via Taxpost or Royal Mail

Following the transfer of the Contributions Agency to HMRC we can now make limited use of the National Insurance Recording System for the purposes of our business. Indirectly this allows us to access the Departmental Central Index run by the DSS. This database gives us another avenue from which we can trace non-compliant taxpayers.

The name and telephone number of our nominated point of contact are held in Debt Management & Banking. You should usually make your requests in writing to our contact point at:

IRNICS
36 Orchard Street
Lincoln
LN1 1YZ

All requests should be in writing unless you have an urgent case. In these circumstances an exception can be made and you may telephone our point of contact directly.
