Second set of Regional Reviews launched

East England, East Midlands and Yorkshire and Humberside Regional Reviews launched

HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) today (Wednesday 17 January 2007) invited staff and unions to comment on proposals for reorganising its office accommodation in urban centres within the East England, East Midlands and Yorkshire and Humberside regions.

The reorganisation of office accommodation arises in part from the integration of the former Inland Revenue and Customs and Excise, which has led to HMRC having more space than it needs.

All Enquiry Centres will remain open in their current localities as will other sites serving a specific local purpose.

East England

The consultation covers the urban centres of Southend and Peterborough and envisages accommodating staff in five buildings rather than the current ten. Initial planning suggests that by 2010, the number of HMRC jobs in these centres is likely to reduce from 2,600 to 2,200 as a result of efficiency programmes.

East Midlands

The consultation covers the urban centres of Nottingham, Derby, Leicester and Northampton and envisages accommodating staff in eight buildings rather than the current twenty one. Initial planning suggests that by 2010, the number of HMRC jobs in these centres is likely to reduce from 4,550 to 4,000.

Yorkshire & Humberside

The consultation covers the urban centres of Leeds, Bradford, Shipley and Sheffield, and envisages accommodating staff in ten buildings rather than the current twenty six. Initial planning suggests that by 2010, the number of HMRC jobs in these centres is likely to reduce from 5,350 to 4,850 by 2010.

Our staff and trade unions are invited to contribute to a two-month consultation for their region, beginning today. In addition we have written to all relevant local authorities, asking for their views on the proposals.
