Melanie Dawes, Director - Large Business Service
Melanie Dawes is a career civil servant with fifteen years’ experience
in the Treasury.
She has spent the last four years as the Treasury’s Europe Director,
where amongst other things she has been involved in European Union (EU) tax
negotiations, and during which time she led the Treasury’s contribution
to last year’s UK Presidency of the European Union.
Melanie started her career as an economist and has also worked on public
spending, tax and tax credit policy, monetary policy and the euro. She has
been involved for many years in the voluntary sector, including recently as
chair of Alcohol Recovery Project, a London charity which provides housing
and other services to people with alcohol problems.
Melanie is married with a two-year old daughter and she works four days a
week. She is a keen gardener, and grows a range of sub-tropical plants in
her garden at home in South London. She and her husband have family in France
and the United States, and spend as much spare time as possible by the sea
in South-West France. Her other interests include food, cooking, history and
music.
