HM Revenue & Customs - International Relations and Capacity Building (IRCB)

HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) has been actively involved in International organisations and global development for many years and has built a worldwide reputation.

Considerable results have been achieved from the activities of IRCB in over one hundred countries. These results include:

  • Increased revenue yield
  • Increased drug seizures
  • Detection of fraud and smuggling as a result of training interventions
  • Capacity building
  • Organisational development
  • Steering the shape and effectiveness of Customs, Tax and International organisations

Much of this work has been managed by the UK private sector who have won international contracts as a result of their partnership with the Department through IRCB.

IRCB, is part of Customs and International and has responsibility for:

  • Assessing and prioritising requests for overseas assistance
  • Contributing to targeted improvements and capacity building in the Customs and Tax administrations of strategically important countries
  • Developing and acting on international policy initiatives aimed at maximising UK influence
  • Coordinating HMRC's international assistance and capacity building activities
  • Managing and administering the Commonwealth Association of Tax Administrators (CATA) flagship training programme
  • Facilitating inward visits from overseas Revenue and Customs Authority's
