Making Payment

All banks and building societies that offer Internet and Telephone banking can accept payments for repaying overpaid tax credit.

These payment methods enable you to tell your bank to make a payment on a specific date. You therefore know for certain on which day payment will reach us.

It normally takes three bank working days for payment to reach us. Some banks or building societies take longer. You should check with your bank or building society to see how long they take to transfer payment and what their cut off time for initiating a payment is.

Bank Account Details

When using these payment methods you need to provide your bank or building society with our bank account details. These are

Accounting & Payment Service (A&PS) Sort Code Account Number Account Name

You will also need to provide your Tax Credit reference number.

This is shown on the payslip that we send you and is located in the reference box. The reference number is made up of 16 characters for example AB123456311204NC where the first 8 characters are your National Insurance number.

It is important that you show the reference with no gaps between the characters. If you do not, it could lead to delays in updating your account.
