Debit Card over the Internet: BillPay

The Online Payment Service we offer is an Alliance & Leicester Commercial Bank product known as BillPay. The BillPay site is supported by Alliance & Leicester.

If you have a Maestro, Solo, Electron, or Visa debit card from any UK bank, you can now pay your Self Assessment, Employers PAYE (including subcontractor and student loan deductions), Stamp Duty Land Tax and Miscellaneous Payments (only references beginning with an ‘X’) over the Internet.

Note: You cannot pay Corporation Tax by BillPay. We are hoping to introduce BillPay for Corporation Tax in the near future.

We do not accept Credit Cards.

The minimum payment you can make is £0.01 and the maximum is £99,999.99.

BillPay asks your card issuer to authorise the transaction at the time you make payment. An acknowledgement is displayed when your payment is processed. You can receive a receipt by email or take a print of the payment acknowledgement screen.

If your card issuer does not authorise the payment a message tells you authorisation has been denied. If you cannot correct any error you will need to arrange payment by an alternative method. You may be charged interest if your payment is late.

Debit card issuers check for fraudulent payments. Therefore if you try to make a payment that does not correspond to your usual pattern of card use, your payment maybe declined. If this happens you need to contact your card issuer for an explanation.

Exceptionally, you may be timed out or experience communications problems when trying to pay. Customers who have signed up for BillPay can View Payment History to check if their payment has been collected. If you are not signed up and are unsure about the fate of your payment please telephone the HMRC BillPay Help Desk on Tel 0845 302 1423, or 0044 1506 476 013 if calling from abroad.

We recommend that you sign up with the BillPay service. If you sign up you will be able to see if your payment transaction has completed successfully. You can also view a history of all your payments.
