1. Ways you can help

You or your organisation can help people arriving in the UK from Afghanistan by offering:

You cannot currently donate items such as clothes, toys or electrical goods.

2. Housing

You or your company or organisation can offer housing to people arriving from Afghanistan. You must own the property.

The housing must:

You cannot offer rooms in a hotel or student halls of residence.

Make an offer of housing.

3. Work

You can offer work or job advice to people arriving from Afghanistan if you’re an employer.

This includes:

  • full-time jobs

  • part-time jobs

  • voluntary work

  • career coaching and networking

  • CV help and advice

You can offer work to people:

  • with refugee status or humanitarian protection (sometimes called ‘settlement protection’)
  • who arrive in the UK with the Afghan Relocations and Assistance Policy (ARAP) or Afghan Citizens Resettlement Scheme (ACSRS)

People with refugee status or who arrive in the UK through a relocation or resettlement scheme have the same right to work as those who are born in the UK.

What you need to do

Download and fill in the form to let the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and Refugee Employment Network (REN) know about work you can offer. Email the completed form to offerwork@homeoffice.gov.uk.

What happens next

After your offer is received, you’ll be contacted by someone from DWP or REN.

They’ll ask you about your offer in more detail and explain what happens next.

4. Helping people to settle in the UK

Community Sponsorship

The Community Sponsorship scheme allows groups of friends and neighbours, charities, and faith groups to support a family when they come to the UK.

Community Sponsors receive training and support from the charity Reset. You must be able to commit to offering support to a family for one year.

Community Sponsorship support includes:

  • practising conversational English
  • showing people around the local area
  • registering children in schools and adults in English classes
  • helping people access public services, for example, registering with a doctor
  • setting up a bank account
  • finding suitable housing
  • arranging transport and running errands
