Show Your True Colours
Accountancy Programme
If you’ve got a head for figures, add this up: over 50 million customers and annual revenue of over £400 billion, a national network of offices plus a comprehensive development programme designed to bring out your true colours.
We’ve already worked it out: it all adds up to more career potential than you could ever imagine.
We’ll support you in achieving your professional qualifications, balanced by the kind of all-round, on-the-job experience that drives progressive careers. There really is nowhere better to gain a solid foundation for a far-reaching accountancy career.
Training
You’ll begin by choosing an institute to study with, typically ICAEW, CIMA or ACCA. And because gaining your qualification depends just as much on the kind of experience you get as how hard you study, we’ll give you the kind of varied, on-the-job experience that delivers a well-rounded future.
You’ll undertake four or five placements, each lasting between 9 and 12 months, in a variety of different areas, within and outside the Finance Directorate.
And to help with your studies, you’ll enjoy very generous study leave, while we pay for all tuition, examination fees and subscriptions. You’ll also be allocated a mentor who is a trained accountant, who will help you to identify the most appropriate placements for you and support you throughout.
We currently have trainees working in the Departmental Transformation Programmes, in Criminal Investigation, assisting a Portfolio Finance Director and in Corporate Shared Services.
Having completed the course, you’ll be a qualified accountant who can look forward to a Grade 7 post that suits your talents and ambitions. This may be within Finance or elsewhere, and you’ll be added to our Talent Pool, from which we’ll develop our senior people of the future.
And, as the institutes require you to keep up your professional development year on year, we’ll organise and pay for that too, as well as your ongoing subscription fees.
