Make a request for information
To make a request for information, please use this online form.
Points to bear in mind:
- To be valid, a Freedom of Information request must be made in writing, (letters, emails and faxes are all acceptable), and include your name and return address for correspondence purposes, (again, an email address is acceptable).
- You should be as specific as possible as to the information you require, as this will help speed up the search for information, and will reduce the risk of your request being turned down on cost grounds. You should let HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) know how you would like the information provided to you, (that is, by post or email), or that you would prefer to view the information in person instead.
- HMRC will provide information in response to a request free of charge. However, where there is lot of information, HMRC may ask you to pay its costs before it sends the information. As a guide, HMRC will provide up to 250 sheets of photocopying free of charge; if there is more it may ask you to pay ten pence per sheet on the full amount, not just on the excess over 250 sheets, plus postage. Whenever HMRC contemplate charging it will provide full details of the charges and how they arise.
