How can I send forms online?

3.3 If you develop your own software

From April 2009 employers with 50 or more employees have to file their in-year forms (P45 (1&3), P46 and similar pension inform online – either by Internet (including Online Return and Forms – PAYE) or Electronic Data Interchange.

We are aware that currently there are anomalies between PAYE forms sent using the two channels in format, field length and text and that this may cause confusion, misunderstanding and extra work for developers.

From April 2008, to ease your burden we will align those discrepancies by standardising format, field length and text. In-year files must meet the initial Internet or Electronic Data Interchange data format rules when they are received at the Government Gateway or the Electronic Data Interchange Gateway. Files that do not meet our requirements will be automatically rejected by HMRC and returned to the submitter (employer or intermediary as appropriate) together with a rejection message which will indicate what needs correcting.
