10.1 HM Revenue & Customs Quality Checks

You need to make sure that the computer software you use can send both your Employer Annual Return and your in-year information online and meet our Quality Standard.

In addition, if you have 50 or more employees, you must make sure that your software will be able to send your in-year information online by April 2009 at the latest. Employers with fewer than 50 employees must do this in time for April 2011.

All the information you file online (whether at the end of the year or during the year) must be completed correctly to pass our quality checks when you send it or it will be rejected. The quality checks ensure that your employees’ records are accurately maintained and prevent you from attracting any unnecessary penalties.

If your online Employer Annual Return or in-year information does not meet our quality checks we will reject it and you will get an on screen message telling you why.
