Support for businesses

In November 2008 we introduced a new dedicated Business Payment Support Service (BPSS) for businesses who are experiencing temporary difficulties in meeting their tax liabilities.

The BPSS is proving to be very effective in helping businesses with temporary financial problems and has received positive feedback from both businesses and their agents. As at the end of April we have agreed time to pay in over 116,000 cases for a total of £2 billion.

If you are worried about being able to meet tax, National Insurance, VAT or other payments owed to HMRC, or you anticipate that future payments may cause difficulties, you can call the BPSS helpline on 0845 302 1435.

Lines are open Monday to Friday 8.00 am to 8.00 pm and Saturday and Sunday 8.00 am to 4.00 pm. Please note however that the BPSS helpline is for new enquiries only, where you have not been contacted by HMRC about an existing debt. If you need help with a tax debt on which you have already been contacted by HMRC, you should talk to the office that made contact with you.
